Frequently Asked Questions about R5.
What is the best wallet to use with R5?
The R5 Blockchain has its own open source wallets as part of its ecosystem, however it is also compatible with a range of existing and well-established wallets that you can choose from - such as MetaMask, Rabby, or Coinbase Wallet, for example. You can choose your wallet based on your own personal requirements. Just make sure that whichever wallet you choose, it is secure and preferably open source.
Can I mine R5 with a GPU?
Yes. You can mine R5 with both GPUs and CPUs, however, GPUs may have degraded performance due to the Ethash-R5 mining algorithm. Using your GPU to mine will also require you to use a third-party miner, as GPU mining is not supported by the protocol's default mining software.
Are R5 transactions private?
All transactions are open and public by default. However, you can use the zkNet Protocol to enhance your on-chain privacy or anonymize your activity via deep transactions.
Which programming languages to use with my smart contracts?
For now, smart contracts can only be written in Vyper or Solidity, but the team at R5 Labs has plans to create its own custom smart contracts programming language and/or expand compatibility to other existing programming languages.
Is R5 quantum-resistant?
The R5 Protocol uses SHA-3 as its hashing algorithm, which offers better quantum resistance and overall performance when compared to SHA-2 algorithms such as SHA-256 (Bitcoin) or SHA-512. However, it is important to note that quantum resistance does not equal quantum proof, and SHA-3 is not considered a post-quantum algorithm - like FALCON and SPHINCS+ for example. In short, at present, R5 offers a degree of quantum protection, but it cannot be considered a post-quantum blockchain. Improvements can be made in future to further enhance its quantum-resistance properties.
