R5 Network

What is R5?

R5 is the fastest and most robust smart contracts Proof-of-Work blockchain in the world. It can process more than 1,000 transactions per second while maintaining strong security and reliable execution.

R5 PoW Consensus

The protocol uses a novel proof-of-work consensus mechanism based on a bespoke implementation of the Nakamoto consensus, with sharper difficulty adjustments, better resource handling, and a custom mining algorithm: Ethash-R5.

Better Execution; More Reliable

Using parallel header verification and with an improved consensus, the R5 Protocol can process upwards of 100Mgas/s; the enhanced processing capacity paired with a block size almost 5x of that of Ethereum, makes R5 extremely resistant to congestions.

Smart Contracts

There is a reason why most fast PoW blockchains are not smart-contract capable: the VM execution brings down performance and degrades TPS. R5 delivers on speed and throughput with smart contract capabilities out of the box.

Opt-in Privacy

On the R5 Blockchain, users have the option to transfer funds via the zkNet protocol using their own Private Internal Addresses (or PIAs), which greatly enhances the privacy of blockchain transactions and helps avoiding balance disclosure and identification on chain.

Developer-Friendly

The R5 protocol is packaged with a range of tools that are part of its Software Development Kit (SDK). These tools are very developer-friendly and makes building on the R5 Network a smooth and pleasing experience.

Decentralized GenAI Streaming

R5 is built with AI and data streaming in mind. With it, developers can create protocols that allow decentralized GenAI streaming on a peer-to-peer basis, where users can interact with generative AI models without any restrictions, pseudonymously and affordably.

Technical Overview

The R5 Protocol uses a novel PoW consensus mechanism with a bespoke mining algorithm: Ethash-R5. It delivers on speed and reliable execution, while being robust and resilient.

R5 PoW + Ethash-R5

The new consensus mechanism is based on a custom implementation of the well-known Nakamoto consensus. It achieves probabilistic finality is just a few seconds and leverages an enhanced version of the battle-tested Ethash algorithm, which when paired with better cache, dataset, and memory handling, makes for blazing fast execution and propagation speeds, without compromising security or reliability.

Larger Blocks; More Speed; Better Throughput

The faster execution times enable the protocol to leverage larger bandwidth and faster transaction processing, allowing larger block times to be validated in less time. R5 achieves much better performance, snappy transactions, and quick finality, without compromising in security and reliability.

Not Just Another Fast PoW Network: Do More With Smart Contracts

The implementation of smart contracts' processing in fast proof-of-work blockchains is a complex issue. While it is easier to program a network to send funds from A to B extremely fast, smart contracts require much more compute and processing from the nodes and miners, often causing degraded performance and instability at lower block times. R5 overcome these issues to deliver a smart contracts-capable network with throughput that rivals those of proof-of-stake and proof-of-authority blockchains. At R5 you will have security and robustness with uncompromised transaction speeds.

Application-Ready, AI-Ready Blockchain

R5 is built to be the backbone of the the next generation of decentralized applications. The team leading the development of its canonical decentralized and open source codebase works hard to make building applications on top of R5 as easy as it can be. GenAI, data streaming, Stablecoin issuance, general financial applications, games, and management systems are just a few examples of what can be built using R5's technology.
